Tao Te Ching Journey

9th Verse – Tao Te Ching

To keep on filling is not as good as stopping.
Overfilled, the cupped hands drip, better to stop pouring.

Sharpen a blade too much and its edge will soon be lost.
Fill your house with jade and gold and it brings insecurity.
Puff yourself with honor and pride and not one can save you from a fall.

Retire when the work is done; this is the way to heaven.

~ Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life by Dr. Wayne Dyer

When the work is done, stop. That is what Lao-tzu is talking about. As Wayne Dyer said in his book, “if you are full, stop eating.” It is as simple as that. Why don’t we listen to ourselves inside? Why do we feel the need to continue? It’s our EGO that pushes us to go beyond what we can handle. We need to stop listening to our EGO and trust our Tao, our Spirit. Don’t let your pride break your fall, because you will fall hard. Don’t let the need of being first or right push you into doing something you are not comfortable doing or a mistake. It’s not worth it. Be peace, be in connection with oneness.
